TOURISM AS A DRIVER FOR ECONOMIC POST-CRISIS RECOVERY AND ITS DEVELOPMENT
Abstract
The recent economic crises that have become more frequent have a negative impact on all sectors of the
national economy. The tourism industry is no exception; moreover, due to its mobility, it is often more sensitive
to crisis events. However, in post-crisis periods, the tourism industry, as a rule, recovers faster than others and
serves a catalyst for the rise of a wide range of sectors of the national economy. The article presents a brief analysis
of the statistical data of the World Tourism Organization. The impact of the COVID-19 pandemic on travelers’
behavior and the subsequent changes in the tourism sector are considered. Attention is drawn to the Asia-Pacific
region and the Middle East countries' focus to the hospitality industry as a driver of economic growth. A forecast
is given for the development trends of the tourism business in the nearest future.
